Former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is now a part-owner of the Athletics. His investment group, Harbinger Sports Group, has purchased a minority stake in the franchise, according to ESPN.

The timing connects directly to the team's planned relocation. The Athletics are set to move to Las Vegas in 2028, and the arrival of a high-profile investor like Cuban adds further financial backing to the franchise as it prepares for that transition.

Cuban sold his controlling interest in the Mavericks in 2023. Harbinger Sports Group is the vehicle through which he and his partners made the Athletics investment. The size of the stake and the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Athletics have been in a period of significant transition in recent years, playing in a temporary stadium in Sacramento while their Las Vegas ballpark is developed. The addition of Cuban's group brings both capital and attention to a franchise working to establish itself in a new market.
