Jackson Koivun shot a closing 5-under 66 on a 97-degree Sunday afternoon in Blaine, Minnesota, and walked away with the 3M Open title by three strokes. It was only his third start as a professional golfer.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports, Koivun finished at 25-under 259, a tournament record. He played bogey-free for the second straight day after firing a 61 on Saturday that gave him a three-shot cushion heading into the final round. He did not give that lead back.
Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked player, made a run. He shot a 63 while playing five groups ahead of Koivun and surged into contention. But Koivun held firm. Scheffler finished three shots back, his fifth runner-up finish of the season. His only win this year came at The American Express in California in his first start of 2026.
Koivun, 21, led Auburn to the NCAA championship last month before turning professional. His path to the 3M Open title was not smooth from the start. He missed the cut at the John Deere Classic in Illinois and tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship in Kentucky earlier this month. Before turning pro, he made 10 starts as an amateur on tour events. The 3M Open win makes him the fourth rookie winner on the PGA Tour this season.
Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman, Chandler Phillips and Denny McCarthy tied for third at 20 under.
Across the Atlantic, Lucas Herbert made his own kind of history. Herbert won LIV Golf United Kingdom in Rocester, England, finishing at 30 under, the lowest 72-hole score in LIV Golf history. He led wire-to-wire for his second victory of the season, closing with a 10-under 62 after opening with a 61 that broke the course record at JCB Golf and Country Club. He also led Ripper GC to the team title. Tyrrell Hatton finished second at 24 under after a 63. Bryson DeChambeau was third at 21 under, shooting a 68.
On the PGA Tour Champions, Jerry Kelly won the Senior British Open by two shots at Gleneagles, Scotland. The 59-year-old American shot a 2-under 68 on the Kings course to finish at 10-under 270. It was his third senior major title. He also won the Senior Players in 2020 and 2022 and now has 14 PGA Tour Champions victories overall. Cameron Percy, Darren Fichardt and Matt Gogel tied for second.
In women's golf, Jenny Shin of South Korea won the Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links in Troon, Scotland, for her first LPGA Tour victory in more than a decade. The 33-year-old shot a 3-over 75 in the final round to finish at 9 under. Her previous win came at the Texas Shootout in May 2016. A Lim Kim finished second, two strokes back. The Women's British Open starts Thursday at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
On the Korn Ferry Tour, Tommy Morrison won the Evans Scholars Invitational in Glenview, Illinois, for his first Korn Ferry title. The 21-year-old former University of Texas player shot an 8-under 63 in the final round for a three-stroke win, finishing at 29 under at The Glen Club. He opened the week with rounds of 63, 63 and 64. Dylan Menante finished second after a 65.
