Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski will call the majority of the team's offensive plays during August's preseason games. Head coach Liam Coen confirmed the plan to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.
Udinski already had a taste of play-calling duties last preseason, handling the final preseason game for the Jaguars. This August, he gets a broader opportunity across multiple games.
Coen pointed to his own career as the reason for the decision. When Coen was with the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Sean McVay gave him a similar chance to develop. "Sean provided me that experience in [Los Angeles] and I want do the same for Grant," Coen said.
Udinski drew head coaching interest this past offseason, interviewing with the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns before agreeing to a new deal and staying in Jacksonville. The preseason reps could help him build the kind of resume that attracts those calls again, and potentially land one.
How far that goes may depend on what the Jaguars do in 2026. If Jacksonville can follow up on its 2025 success, Udinski's stay in the AFC South may only extend by one more year before he moves on to a head coaching role elsewhere.
