A director at Oceaneering International sold 3,000 shares of the company on July 30, according to a recent SEC Form 4 filing reviewed by Yahoo Finance. Kevin McEvoy, a former CEO of the Houston-based company, executed the sales in multiple transactions at prices ranging from $47.922 to $47.945 per share, resulting in a weighted average price of $47.92. The total transaction value was based on that weighted average price, while the stock closed at $47.64 on the same day.

Following the sale, McEvoy retains a direct ownership stake of 134,133 shares, which represents approximately 0.1% of the company.

The sale came after a strong run for the stock. Oceaneering shares delivered a 113% return over the 12 months ending July 30, meaning McEvoy sold into a period of significant price appreciation rather than a decline.

Oceaneering International was established in 1964 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company provides specialized engineering services, innovative products, and advanced robotic solutions. Its primary revenue comes from its Subsea Robotics division, which deploys Remotely Operated Vehicles, known as ROVs, for offshore drilling operations and subsea hardware deployment.

The company operates across multiple sectors beyond offshore energy, including defense, aerospace, manufacturing, and entertainment. Its customers include major offshore energy operators, oil and gas exploration companies, and defense contractors, with a global client base spanning both established and emerging energy markets.

Oceaneering reported trailing twelve-month revenue of $2.9 billion and net income of $350.1 million as of the current reporting period. The company maintains what analysts describe as a competitive advantage through its proprietary ROV technology and diversified service offerings across high-value industrial sectors.

Insider sales at large companies do not always signal a negative outlook on the stock. Directors and executives sell shares for a range of personal financial reasons, and McEvoy's remaining stake of more than 134,000 shares indicates continued substantial ownership in the company.
