Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development, naming the project directly in a letter to shareholders.
The letter, a large document covering the company's broader entertainment holdings, touched on 150 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and the performance of House of the Dragon before addressing its games division. According to Screen Rant, the relevant passage read: "We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy."
The company had previously come close to confirming the sequel through job listings and a new hire that fueled speculation, alongside a statement that pointed toward but stopped short of confirming a 2027 release window. Naming the project in a shareholder letter is a more formal acknowledgment than anything the company had offered before.
WB Games has had recent releases in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and the mobile title Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. The original Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive, launched Feb. 10, 2023, and holds an 84/100 average on OpenCritic, with 88 percent of critics recommending it.
No trailer, release date, or platform information has been announced. Gamescom Opening Night Live, scheduled for Aug. 25, is one potential venue for a formal reveal. The Game Awards in December is another possibility if no announcement comes sooner.
