A youth baseball dispute that moved from the diamond into a Texas courtroom ended Tuesday with a judge sending the Boerne team to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The dispute began when the Tulsa team was disqualified from the Southwest Region tournament for using an ineligible player in an earlier round. Boerne then won what it understood to be the decisive game earning it a trip to Williamsport. But Tulsa filed for and received a restraining order in the 414th Judicial District in McLennan County, which temporarily allowed it to play Boerne again on Tuesday night.

Little League International responded by asking a Texas judge to throw out the restraining order and allow Boerne to advance as planned. The judge eventually ruled in Boerne's favor.

According to Yahoo Sports, the legal maneuvering around youth and college sports has become a pattern, with court injunctions now shaping outcomes in events ranging from the College Football Playoff to the FIFA World Cup to an NBA trade dispute involving two franchises. The Little League situation became the latest example of legal action substituting for competition.

The controversy has a historical echo. The Danny Almonte case from the 2001 Little League World Series, now 25 years old, involved a player whose age was misrepresented. That case put parents and youth sports organizations on notice that eligibility disputes could reach far beyond the field. Some observers have argued that case opened a door that has never fully closed.

Boerne is now set to compete at the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
