A Jason Statham thriller that divided critics but won over audiences has landed on MGM+, arriving just days before his next theatrical release.
A Working Man, released in March 2025, is now available to stream. According to Screen Rant, the film follows Levon Cade, a man who walks away from a dangerous career to work construction and be a present father. When a local girl disappears, he gets pulled back into the criminal world he left behind.
The film had a modest run in theaters. It earned $37 million domestically and $89 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. It moved to premium video on demand just one month after its theatrical opening.
The critical reception was sharply split. On Rotten Tomatoes, A Working Man holds a 46% Tomatometer from critics but an 87% Verified Hot score from audiences. Screen Rant's own review gave the film 5 out of 10 stars. Reviewer Mary Kassel acknowledged strong action sequences but noted that "there's still plenty of clumsy exposition to parse through before we get to the good stuff."
That gap between critics and audiences is not unusual for Statham. His films have long drawn devoted fan bases regardless of professional reviews. A Working Man fits that pattern, with audiences clearly more forgiving of its shortcomings than the press.
The film also connects to another Statham project. A Working Man was directed by David Ayer, the same filmmaker behind The Beekeeper, Statham's early 2024 release that performed well enough to earn a sequel. A Working Man is Ayer's immediate follow-up to that film, making it a natural next watch for fans of either. Ayer's next theatrical project is Heart of the Beast.
The streaming arrival comes at a relevant moment for Statham's career. His next film, Mutiny, a conspiracy thriller, is set for theatrical release on August 21. That gives audiences less than a week to catch up on A Working Man before his next chapter begins.
