Ryan McCormick was already headed home for the weekend. He just did not expect to go out like this.
The 34-year-old New Jersey native, playing in the second round of the Albertsons Boise Open at Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho, made a 13 on the par-4 ninth hole Friday, his final hole of the day. He had opened with a five-over 76 and was three over through eight holes of his second round, with no birdies on his card, when he stepped to the tee at nine.
According to Yahoo Sports, which cited Golfweek, McCormick proceeded to hit five consecutive tee shots that flew left into trees and out of bounds. His 11th shot also went left but stayed in bounds, carrying 325 yards into the rough. From 88 yards out, he hit the green. He then drained a putt from 20 feet, 5 inches to close out the hole.
The one-putt capped a 13 on a par 4.
McCormick signed for an 83 on the round. He would not have made the cut regardless. The score was part of a difficult 2026 season in which he has missed seven cuts in 11 starts, with only one top-25 finish to show for it.
McCormick has made headlines before for unconventional reasons. Earlier this season, he drew attention for taping his mouth shut while playing on the course.
The Albertsons Boise Open continues through the weekend at Hillcrest Country Club.
