The Mets took an early 2-0 lead before Andrés Chaparro hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to cut Washington’s deficit to 2-1. Brady House then hit a three-run homer in the sixth to put the Nationals ahead 4-2. Carson Benge answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, trimming the Washington lead to 4-3. In the ninth, Francisco Alvarez doubled and Brett Baty scored to tie the game. Francisco Lindor followed with a single that brought home the winning run for the Mets.
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in 10 innings, improving their record to 60-63. Leody Taveras singled home Gunnar Henderson in the second inning to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead. Pete Alonso hit his 27th home run of the season in the fifth, and Christian Encarnacion-Strand added a homer in the sixth to put the Orioles ahead 3-1. Tampa Bay fought back to tie the game before Baltimore regained the lead in extra innings. Andrew Kittredge earned the win, Bryan Baker took the loss, and Cam Sanders pitched a scoreless bottom of the 10th for his third save.
The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Kansas City Royals 1-0 at Angel Stadium behind a dominant performance from Reid Detmers. Detmers pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out 11. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth, when Nolan Schanuel singled home Jose Siri for the only run of the contest. Nate Pearson took the loss for Kansas City, while Ben Joyce pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the save.
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 4-3 at Comerica Park. Braden Montgomery singled home Sam Antonacci in the first inning to give Chicago an early lead, but Eduardo Valencia answered with an RBI single for Detroit in the bottom of the inning. Colson Montgomery delivered a two-run double in the third to put the White Sox ahead 3-1. Detroit later tied the game before Andrew Benintendi drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. Jordan Hicks earned the win, and Bryan Hudson recorded his fifth save.
The Boston Red Sox shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0 at PNC Park. Wilyer Abreu hit a two-out solo home run in the second inning to give Boston a 1-0 lead. Sonny Gray protected the advantage by throwing seven scoreless innings and striking out seven. Boston broke the game open in the ninth when Andruw Monasterio hit a two-run double and Jahmai Jones followed with an RBI single. Jared Jones took the loss for Pittsburgh after allowing one earned run over five innings.
The Miami Marlins defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-4 at Great American Ball Park. Jakob Marsee homered in the third inning to give Miami the first run of the game, but Cincinnati responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Joe Mack homered in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. The Reds later moved ahead 4-3 before Miami scored four runs in the eighth inning. Heriberto Hernández delivered a two-run single during the rally to put the Marlins ahead 6-4. Miami added another run in the ninth to complete the 8-4 victory. Tyler Zuber earned the win.
The Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 10-5 at Daikin Park. Seattle scored early, with Cole Young and Victor Robles contributing run-producing hits as the Mariners built a lead. Brendan Donovan finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs. The Mariners were ahead 7-2 when Isaac Paredes hit a two-run homer for Houston in the eighth inning, cutting the deficit to 7-4. Cole Young then hit a three-run home run in the ninth to extend Seattle’s lead to 10-4. Houston scored once more in the bottom of the ninth. Emerson Hancock earned the win after pitching seven innings.
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Minnesota Twins 9-1 at Target Field. Philadelphia broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Alec Bohm contributed an RBI single during the rally as the Phillies pulled away. Jesús Luzardo earned the win after pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing one earned run. Connor Prielipp took the loss after giving up eight earned runs over five innings. The Phillies added their final run in the ninth when J.T. Realmuto drove in Bohm with a sacrifice fly.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-4 at Wrigley Field in a historic major-league debut for Joshua Báez. Báez homered in each of his first three career plate appearances, becoming the first player in Major League history to accomplish the feat. He finished with three home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored. Blaze Jordan also homered for St. Louis. Michael McGreevy earned the win after pitching six innings and striking out six, while Matthew Boyd took the loss for Chicago.
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 4-1 at Rogers Centre. George Lombard Jr. singled home the Yankees’ only run in the second inning. Alejandro Kirk tied the game with an RBI single in the third. Charles McAdoo then delivered the go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning before adding an RBI single in the eighth. Nathan Lukes drove in Toronto’s fourth run with a groundout. Spencer Miles earned the win, while Louis Varland pitched a scoreless ninth for his 28th save.
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-1 at Oracle Park. Colorado scored first, but Drew Gilbert tied the game with a solo home run in the third inning. The Giants then erupted for six runs in the fourth. Rafael Devers hit an RBI ground-rule double, Gilbert later scored on a wild pitch, and Bryce Eldridge added an RBI single as San Francisco pulled away. Michael Lorenzen took the loss after allowing six earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, while Logan Webb earned the win.
The Cleveland Guardians defeated the San Diego Padres 6-1 at Progressive Field behind a strong start from Joey Cantillo. San Diego scored first, but Cleveland tied the game before Patrick Bailey hit an RBI double in the second inning to give the Guardians a 2-1 lead. José Ramírez added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to help extend Cleveland’s advantage. The Guardians scored two more runs in the seventh to finish the scoring. William Contreras added another two-run homer in the fourth, scoring Jake Bauers and extending the Brewers’ lead to 4-1. Jacob Misiorowski earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing one run on five hits. Justin Wrobleski took the loss for Los Angeles, while Aaron Ashby pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.
The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Atlanta Braves 10-3 at Truist Park. Ronald Acuña Jr. homered in the first inning for Atlanta, and Michael Harris II drove in another run later in the inning. Arizona responded with a strong offensive performance and pulled away from the Braves. Ildemaro Vargas capped the scoring with a three-run home run in the ninth inning, extending Arizona’s lead to 10-2 at the time. Texas rallied, and Wyatt Langford hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to put the Rangers ahead. MacKenzie Gore earned the win after pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs. J.T.
