Two notable films are leaving Netflix in the United States next month, and both share a connection to actor Dev Patel.

According to Collider, The Girl on the Train, the 2016 thriller starring Emily Blunt with a supporting turn from Rebecca Ferguson, will be removed from the platform in September. So will The Green Knight, the 2021 A24 fantasy epic in which Patel played the lead role.

The Girl on the Train turns a decade old this year. It was based on a bestselling thriller novel and was likely fast-tracked after the commercial success of David Fincher's Gone Girl a couple of years earlier. Ferguson appeared in a pivotal supporting role alongside Blunt, with the cast also including Luke Evans, Haley Bennett, Justin Theroux, and Allison Janney. The film received mixed reviews but performed strongly at the box office, grossing more than $170 million worldwide against a reported budget of $50 million. That is more than three times its budget, though still well short of Gone Girl's $370 million-plus worldwide gross.

Ferguson's 2026 schedule is otherwise dominated by larger projects. She appeared earlier this year in the third season of Apple TV's Silo and will later reprise her role as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Three. She is also set to appear in The Magic Faraway Tree, an adaptation of Enid Blyton's fantasy novels.

The Green Knight, directed by David Lowery and released theatrically by A24 in 2021, starred Patel as Gawain on a mythic quest. The cast included Alicia Vikander, Ralph Ineson, Sean Harris, and Joel Edgerton. The film earned $20 million at the box office against a reported budget of $15 million, a modest return attributed in part to a theatrical market that had not fully recovered at the time. It received positive reviews and has since developed a cult following.

Patel is currently in production on The Peasant, a period revenge epic filmed in the mountains and deserts of India that he is also directing. The film is described as a combination of Braveheart and John Wick and is being produced by A24, the same company behind The Green Knight. It marks his second time in the director's chair after the action film Monkey Man.

Both The Girl on the Train and The Green Knight are available to stream on Netflix in the United States until the end of August.
