Mitchell Starc claimed a 10-wicket match haul in the second Test against Bangladesh at Mackay, powering Australia to an innings and 51-run victory. The performance levelled the two-match series 1-1 after Australia had lost the first Test in Darwin.
Starc was dominant from the opening session, taking 6-12 as Bangladesh collapsed for 64 on day one. He added four more wickets in the second innings as the visitors were dismissed for 95. The match figures of 10-51 marked the fourth time Starc has taken 10 wickets in a single Test match.
According to Yahoo Sports, the effort also pushed Starc past South African pace legend Dale Steyn into 10th place on the all-time Test wicket-takers list. Starc now has 445 Test wickets.
The series win also brought a record. Starc has now won four Player of the Series awards in Test cricket, the most of any active fast bowler. Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, Kemar Roach, and Matt Henry each have three. Starc's four series awards have come across three countries, with two in Australia and one each in England and the West Indies.
Bumrah's three awards came in England, South Africa, and Australia. Cummins collected all three of his in Australia. Rabada's came in South Africa, England, and Bangladesh. Roach won two in the West Indies and one in Sri Lanka. Henry claimed two at home in New Zealand and one in Zimbabwe.
Starc turned 37 this year. The performance at Mackay adds to what is already a lengthy list of career milestones. Australia now face a demanding 12-month stretch that includes 20 Tests and tours of South Africa, India, and England.
