Camp Rock is back, and viewers showed up in large numbers.
The third installment of the Disney Channel film series debuted on Disney Plus on August 13, bringing back the Jonas Brothers and featuring a cameo from Demi Lovato. According to Collider, the film has since ranked as the most-watched movie on Disney Plus in both the United States and worldwide.
The film's debut follows years of anticipation from fans who grew up watching the original Camp Rock in 2008 and its 2010 sequel. The return of the Jonas Brothers and the surprise Lovato appearance drove significant interest ahead of and following the release.
The results arrived quickly. The film has been available for just over a week, and it has already claimed the top streaming position globally on the platform.
The Camp Rock revival lands at a moment when Disney is leaning into nostalgia-driven projects. The studio has several legacy sequels in various stages of development, including The Princess Diaries 3, which was announced in 2022 and stars Anne Hathaway. That film has faced delays due to rewrites and will not include Julie Andrews.
Hathaway addressed Andrews' absence at the recent D23 event, saying, "First of all, I just want to say if she has a change of heart, we're down." She added, "But we also want to be respectful. For goodness sakes, if anybody has contributed to the world of entertainment and to our collective joy, it's her. Whatever she wants, we completely understand. We did push really hard to see if she would want to do it."
No release date for The Princess Diaries 3 has been announced. Camp Rock 3 is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
