Lauren London is set to play Beverly Tate, the mother of Snoop Dogg, in the upcoming Snoop biopic from Universal Pictures. The film is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on August 6, 2027, according to Deadline.
Beverly Tate played a direct role in shaping her son's identity from early on. She worked as a director in their local church choir and began calling her son Snoopy, a nickname drawn from the Peanuts character on television. That nickname eventually became the foundation of one of rap's most recognizable stage names.
Camron Jones, known for the series Panic, has been cast as 2Pac, The Hollywood Reporter revealed on Tuesday. Snoop and 2Pac were closely linked throughout the mid-1990s as the two dominant figures on Suge Knight's Death Row Records. They collaborated on tracks including "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted." Snoop later inducted 2Pac into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
The film is directed by Craig Brewer, who previously helmed Hustle and Flow. Jonathan Daviss, best known for Outer Banks, is playing Snoop Dogg. Myle Bullock, from BMF, is cast as Dr. Dre.
London and Snoop have a prior working relationship. Snoop enlisted her to appear in the music video for "Drop It Like It's Hot," his collaboration with Pharrell, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2004, according to Billboard. London's late partner, Nipsey Hussle, was once offered the role of Snoop Dogg in the 2015 N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton but turned it down. That role ultimately went to LaKeith Stanfield.
London's most recent film work includes a starring role in You People in 2023 and an appearance in Tyler the Creator's "Darling, I" music video in 2025.
