Jim Gaffigan is playing a president. That is one of the more unexpected casting choices in The Gilded Age Season 4, which premieres Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET and PT on HBO Max.
Gaffigan will portray Grover Cleveland, the 22nd President of the United States, who travels to New York to court the favor of the city's elite class. Dallas Roberts joins alongside him as Daniel Manning, Cleveland's Secretary of the Treasury. Elizabeth Marvel plays Nurse Virginia Saville, a kind nurse working at a Neighborhood Settlement House on the Lower East Side. Andrew Burnap rounds out the guest star additions as Porter, a young Ivy League man looking to invest in new ventures.
According to Deadline, production on the eight-episode season has already wrapped. Star Carrie Coon announced the news on her Instagram story.
Several actors have been promoted to series regulars for the new season. Jordan Donica, who plays Dr. William Kirkland, and Ashlie Atkinson, who plays Mamie Fish, are both moving up. Kelley Curran, who plays Enid Winterton, a character formerly known as Turner when she worked as Bertha's maid, has also been promoted.
In recurring roles, the season adds Taylor Trensch, James Scully, Dennis Haysbert, Maggie Kuntz, Neal Huff, and Tony Award-winner Bonnie Milligan.
The full roster of series regulars returning from the beginning includes Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denee Benton, Cynthia Nixon, Christine Baranski, Harry Richardson, Blake Ritson, Taissa Farmiga, and Audra McDonald.
Season 3 ended with a mix of joy and tension. Donica's Dr. Kirkland proposed to Peggy Scott, played by Benton, in what the show described as a happy moment. Meanwhile, George and Bertha Russell hit trouble in their marriage after Bertha pushed their daughter Gladys into an arranged marriage without George's consent, leaving him feeling shut out.
The Gilded Age is based on the American Gilded Age period, which ran roughly from 1870 to 1900, and was created by Julian Fellowes.
