Ellen Pompeo is set to lead a new drama series in development at Hulu, playing a disgraced emergency room nurse who loses her hearing in a hit-and-run accident.
The project, titled Not a Sound, is based on Heather Gudenkauf's novel of the same name. According to Variety, it comes from David E. Kelley, the creator of Big Little Lies and Boston Legal.
The story follows Amelia Winn, the disgraced nurse, who discovers the murdered body of a former colleague with the help of her service dog. The discovery pulls her into a deadly mystery connected to the accident that cost her her hearing.
The script is written by Matthew Tinker and Annakate Chappell, the duo behind Big Sky. Tinker also serves as president of David E. Kelley Productions. Director Azazel Jacobs, known for His Three Daughters, is attached to direct. Chappell, Jacobs, Kelley, and Tinker all executive produce. Pompeo and Laura Holstein executive produce through their company Calamity Jane. 20th Television is the studio.
The project falls under Pompeo's existing overall deal with 20th Television. She has been active across multiple projects with Disney lately. Her true crime anthology series Good American Family was recently renewed by Hulu for a second season, and the streamer also ordered a dramedy pilot starring and executive produced by Pompeo titled Chicks.
Pompeo has played Meredith Grey on ABC's Grey's Anatomy since 2005. She also executive produced the spinoff Station 19 and is an executive producer on an upcoming Grey's Anatomy offshoot set in West Texas, which is set to premiere in midseason 2027.
