Sony has officially confirmed the next PlayStation State of Play will air this Thursday, September 3, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
According to Screen Rant, the event will feature game reveals, updates, and announcements from both PlayStation Studios and third-party developers. Sony has confirmed only one title by name. The broadcast will conclude with what was described as "an extended look at the vast world of Final Fantasy VII Revelation from our friends at Square Enix."
The rest of the lineup has not been disclosed, leaving the door open for surprise announcements, new trailers, gameplay reveals, and release date confirmations. Both the main State of Play and a follow-up Japan broadcast will air on PlayStation's official YouTube and Twitch channels.
Immediately following the main presentation, State of Play Japan will shift focus to developers across Japan and the wider Asian market. That broadcast will be hosted by prolific voice actor Yuki Kaji and presented in Japanese with English subtitles. The main State of Play will be presented in English with Japanese subtitles available.
Sony has not confirmed the runtime for either broadcast or provided a full list of participating studios or games.
The event comes after a packed summer for PlayStation. June's State of Play included updates on Marvel's Wolverine, the reveal of God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2, and release date news for Control Resonant. Summer Game Fest brought another round of PS5 announcements, and August featured a dedicated Phantom Blade Zero State of Play alongside Gamescom coverage of upcoming PlayStation titles.
Last week also saw a major moment for console gaming more broadly, as GTA 6 received a major gameplay reveal through Netflix, with Rockstar's title shaping up as one of the defining PS5 releases of the generation.
Thursday's State of Play is set to close out what has been one of the busiest gaming summers in recent memory.
