Hull City made one of the busiest deadline days of any club in England, signing six players and completing an 18-player summer rebuild as they returned to the Premier League after a nine-year absence.
The biggest move was the arrival of 23-year-old midfielder Tim Iroegbunam from Everton. The initial fee was £13m, but the deal could rise to £22m with add-ons. Iroegbunam signed a five-year contract with the Tigers. He spent two years at Goodison Park before making the move to the Championship-turned-Premier League side.
Hull also completed a £12m deal for Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy, 22, who started his career at Arsenal and was part of the England Under-21 squad that retained the European Championship in Slovakia in 2025. Moving in the opposite direction was English full-back Cody Drameh, who had featured in all three of Hull's league games this season. Genoa are set to pay £3.4m for him.
Earlier in the day, Hull signed German Under-21 forward Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin on a five-year contract. The reported fee was 15m euros, approximately £12.8m, with up to 12m euros in add-ons. Ansah, who turns 22 in November, scored five goals in 36 matches in all competitions for Union Berlin last season. He stands 6ft 4in.
Roma's 19-year-old France Under-20 international Robinio Vaz joined on loan with an option to buy. Winger Sorba Thomas, 27, arrived from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract. Thomas scored 10 goals and provided 13 assists in 45 Championship appearances last season. Hull's final signing of the day was 19-year-old Olympiakos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis for a reported £13m. The Greece international, who has earned 11 caps, progressed through Olympiakos' academy and has made 50 league appearances for the club.
Hull's activity came on a deadline day that saw the Premier League break its all-time summer transfer record for the second consecutive year, according to BBC Sport. Total spending across the top flight reached £3.46bn, surpassing the previous record of £3.14bn set just 12 months earlier. That figure dwarfs the £1.13bn spent by Premier League clubs just five years ago, according to figures provided to BBC Sport by Paul Macdonald, founder of FootballTransfers.com.
The headline deal of the summer was Enzo Fernandez's move from Chelsea to Manchester City, confirmed shortly after the window closed, for a joint-British record fee of £125m. That surpassed the £117m Chelsea paid to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa and the £116m Manchester City spent earlier in the window to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. Liverpool paid an initial £106m, which could rise to £123m, for Paris St-Germain forward Bradley Barcola.
Manchester City finished the summer as the biggest spenders in the Premier League, with total outlay reaching £458m under new manager Enzo Maresca. That is a new single-window record, passing Liverpool's £415m from last summer. City also made £304m in player sales. Chelsea were the next biggest spenders at £349m.
Three of the ten most expensive transfers in the history of football were completed this summer, with all three going to Premier League clubs. Of the top 20 most expensive transfers completed this window, only six went to clubs outside the English top flight. Newly promoted Ipswich Town spent more on new signings than Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, and reigning European champions PSG.
