Visa has rolled out an upgraded version of its A2A Protect solution, designed to help banks catch account-to-account fraud before customer money leaves an account.
The update centers on a new unified fraud score. It is the first product Visa has brought to market that incorporates technology from Featurespace, a company Visa acquired earlier. The score is built to give banks faster and clearer signals when a transaction looks suspicious, while also cutting down on false alerts that can slow down fraud teams and frustrate customers.
Visa is also developing a separate tool called Visa Graph IQ alongside the enhanced A2A Protect. The tool uses graph-based technology to help institutions map out fraud networks, identify money mule activity, spot emerging threats, and accelerate investigation timelines. Visa described it as designed for deeper fraud investigations rather than front-line detection.
A2A Protect uses artificial intelligence and transfer learning to connect banks to global risk data on account-to-account transactions. According to Visa, the approach means institutions can see results from the first day of use, rather than spending months building and training their own data models. Banks that join the network can also access additional signals drawn from across the wider payments system.
The system connects to a bank's existing infrastructure through a single application programming interface, which Visa says shortens the time needed to implement it. Each fraud alert the system generates comes with a plain-language explanation of why a transaction was flagged. Visa said that feature is intended to help fraud analysts make faster decisions without adding friction for customers making legitimate transfers.
Visa Asia Pacific Value-Added Services head Serene Gay described the update as a response to the growth of digital payments in the region. "As account-to-account payments continue to accelerate across Asia Pacific, financial institutions are looking for ways to grow digital payments with confidence while maintaining a seamless experience for consumers and businesses," she said. "The latest enhancements to A2A Protect combine Visa's network intelligence with advanced AI capabilities to help our clients detect fraud earlier, respond faster to emerging threats, and strengthen trust in the digital payments ecosystem."
