At least fourteen people were taken to the hospital during a Chainsmokers concert in San Jose, California, on Friday night. Emergency services responded to multiple medical calls at the outdoor event held at Discovery Meadow. The San Jose Fire Department reported that they received over a dozen reports of individuals needing medical attention during the show. The department immediately requested an ambulance task force, two additional advanced life support fire units, and a battalion chief to manage the situation.
A total of fourteen ambulances responded to the scene, and fourteen individuals were transported to local hospitals, according to Consequence. The conditions of those hospitalized have not been disclosed by authorities, according to a report from Rolling Stone. No single cause has been identified for the medical emergencies, and no arrests have been reported in connection with the events.
San Jose police said some concertgoers were treated for suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues. Authorities have not said that all fourteen hospitalizations resulted from the same cause. ABC7 reported that some patients were treated at the park before the emergency response ended at approximately 10:34 p.m.
The Chainsmokers did not publicly comment on the situation, although they shared footage from the concert on social media. Following the incident, the duo continued their tour schedule with a performance at Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas on September 5th. They are scheduled to appear at Austin City Limits in October next. Ticketmaster lists the duo for Austin City Limits Music Festival on both October 2 and October 9.
The event was part of a larger lineup that included Don Diablo and other performers. The promoter’s event listing also included StephyV in the show’s tags. No statement has been issued by the duo or their representatives regarding the medical incidents.
The Chainsmokers have previously faced criticism for unauthorized remixes of other artists' songs, NME reported. Earlier this year, rapper EsDeeKid publicly criticized the duo for releasing an unauthorized remix of his song “4 Raws,” which was subsequently removed from YouTube and SoundCloud.
