Two Greek Air Force pilots died Saturday when their F-4 Phantom jet crashed during the country's annual aerial show near Athens, according to multiple reports including NBC News and Reuters.

The crash took place in front of thousands of spectators who had gathered to watch the display. The aircraft went down and started a fire at the crash site. Sources told Reuters that both pilots were killed in the incident.

The F-4 Phantom is an aging aircraft that has been in service with the Hellenic Air Force for decades. No additional details about the cause of the crash were immediately available from the reports.
