West Ham delivered a strong performance against Wrexham, winning 6-0 in the Championship. The victory puts West Ham at the top of the Championship table ahead of the rest of the weekend's fixtures. This win marks West Ham’s fourth league victory in a row and their largest since September 2018. The Hammers now have 14 points from six matches and have scored 16 goals during their four-game winning streak, according to Sky Sports.
Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for West Ham in the 28th minute, according to The Guardian. Joël Piroe added a second goal before halftime. Konstantinos Mavropanos, Taty Castellanos, Mohamadou Kanté, and Manor Solomon each scored in the second half.
Wrexham struggled to respond throughout the match. West Ham had a chance early on, but Castellanos’s header went just over the crossbar. Bowen later had a shot saved by Wrexham goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. Piroe missed a good opportunity midway through the first half, sending his shot high into the crowd. Bowen then scored to make it 1-0 a minute later.
Mavropanos cleared the ball off the line after Wrexham's George Dobson had a chance. Patterson stopped Solomon from scoring in the early part of the second half. West Ham quickly extended their lead just a minute after Patterson’s save. Bowen had another chance but shot wide after cutting inside.
The fourth goal came from a Wrexham corner. Kanté came on as a substitute and scored to make it 5-0 after being set up by Solomon. Solomon completed the scoring with a deflected shot that went past the Wrexham keeper.
Wrexham’s season has started poorly after narrowly missing the Championship playoffs last season, according to a report from ESPN. Wrexham finished seventh last season with 71 points, two points behind Hull City for the final playoff position.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said his team lost its way after conceding the first two goals. He said the club needed to quickly restore the basics that had previously allowed his teams to stay competitive in difficult matches, according to Sky Sports.
