Garrett Mitchell made a key defensive play that helped decide the series by robbing Manny Machado of what would have been a game-tying home run. The play happened in the eighth inning of Game 4 during the NLDS between the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres. Machado hit a deep ball to center field that looked like it would sail over the wall.

Mitchell tracked the ball closely and managed to catch it just before it cleared the wall. He said afterward that he relied on his instincts and reacted quickly to make the play. Machado was visibly upset after the catch but Mitchell’s effort protected Milwaukee's 3-1 lead.

The catch came at a crucial moment in the series and helped the Brewers secure the victory.

With this win the Brewers now advance to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS according to Reuters. The Padres are now out of playoff contention for the season after their loss. Milwaukee won the best-of-five series 3-1.

Milwaukee’s next opponent will be the Dodgers with Game 1 scheduled for Sunday October 11 at American Family Field. The Brewers are four victories away from their second World Series appearance in franchise history.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run for the Padres in the third inning. Robert Gasser was a former Padres draft pick who pitched four innings and allowed one run on three hits. Jackson Chourio drove in Mitchell with a single in the fifth inning to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead.

The Padres had been in a strong position entering the postseason after finishing the regular season with 91 wins. However Milwaukee won the first two games of the series before San Diego fought back with a Game 3 victory.

Despite their strong finish the Padres were unable to overcome Mitchell’s defensive brilliance in Game 4. The Brewers will look to continue their momentum as they prepare for the Dodgers in the NLCS. Milwaukee will also have a chance to avenge last season's NLCS loss to Los Angeles.
