Aston Villa recorded the biggest European victory in the club's history with a commanding 6-0 win over Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. Nicolas Jackson and Ross Barkley scored twice each at Villa Park as Unai Emery's team maintained its perfect start to the competition.

Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Jackson added two first-half goals. Barkley scored twice after the break, including a penalty, and substitute Tammy Abraham completed the victory with a late sixth goal.

The result gave Villa its first home win of the season after a difficult start to its domestic campaign. It also extended the team's impressive European home record under Emery and left the Birmingham club with six points from its opening two Champions League matches.

Villa entered the match seeking to improve its performances at home, where results had been disappointing despite signs of progress elsewhere. The victory provided an emphatic response in front of 34,705 supporters, including Prince William, a longtime Aston Villa fan.

The six-goal margin represented Aston Villa's largest victory in European competition, surpassing the club's previous records on the continental stage. It was also the first time Villa had scored six goals in a Champions League match.

Manzambi gave the home supporters an early reason to celebrate when he opened the scoring on his 21st birthday. The Swiss midfielder, making his Champions League debut, struck a shot that deflected off Fenerbahce captain Milan Skriniar and beat goalkeeper Ederson.

The early goal settled Villa and allowed Emery's players to attack with greater confidence. Fenerbahce attempted to respond, but Villa's movement and direct passing repeatedly created problems for the Turkish side.

Jackson doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, finishing an attacking move after receiving the ball from Boubacar Kamara. The Senegal international showed composure in front of goal, giving Ederson little opportunity to prevent the second.

Eight minutes later, Jackson struck again to make it 3-0. Barkley provided the assist as Villa's leading attacker completed his first-half double and effectively placed the match beyond Fenerbahce's reach.

The two goals continued Jackson's improving form following his summer move from Chelsea. His pace, movement and finishing gave Villa a reliable attacking outlet throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Fenerbahce had opportunities of its own despite the one-sided halftime score. Vedat Muriqi threatened the Villa goal, forcing goalkeeper Zion Suzuki into an important save that prevented the visitors from reducing the deficit.

Suzuki's intervention ensured Villa retained its three-goal advantage heading into the dressing room. Although the home side was clearly the more effective team, the goalkeeper's contribution showed that defensive concentration remained necessary.

Emery's team returned for the second half determined to maintain its attacking approach rather than simply protect the lead. Villa continued creating chances as Fenerbahce struggled to cope with pressure around its penalty area.

The fourth goal arrived in the 68th minute when Barkley converted a penalty. Manzambi had been fouled inside the area, giving the experienced midfielder the opportunity to extend Villa's advantage from the spot.

Barkley made no mistake with the penalty, placing his effort beyond Ederson. His goal further increased the pressure on a Fenerbahce team that had struggled to control Villa's midfield throughout the contest.

Only four minutes later, Barkley scored again to complete his double. Ibrahim Mbaye provided the assist as the midfielder finished another attacking move to make the score 5-0.

Barkley's contribution was particularly important because it demonstrated Villa's attacking strength beyond its forwards. His ability to arrive in dangerous positions helped turn a comfortable victory into a record-breaking result.

The final goal came in the 90th minute through substitute Tammy Abraham. Alysson supplied the assist after Abraham had replaced Jackson in the 78th minute.

Abraham's late strike completed a memorable evening for the home supporters and ensured Villa finished with six goals from 20 attempts. The team registered 11 shots on target, compared with four for Fenerbahce.

According to Sky Sports match statistics, Villa achieved the result despite having less possession than its opponents. Fenerbahce controlled approximately 55 percent of the ball, but the home side created and finished its opportunities far more effectively.

Villa's attacking efficiency was one of the clearest differences between the teams. The hosts moved quickly when possession changed hands and took advantage of gaps in the visiting defense.

Fenerbahce arrived in Birmingham hoping to build on its opening Champions League draw against Roma. The Turkish club had also enjoyed strong recent domestic performances, making the scale of the defeat particularly disappointing.

Manager Ismail Kartal faced a difficult evening as his team conceded three goals in each half. Defensive mistakes and Villa's ability to exploit space prevented Fenerbahce from establishing any sustained control.

The visitors included several players familiar to English football supporters, including former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood. He received a hostile reception from sections of the Villa Park crowd before being substituted during the second half.

Greenwood had previously faced criminal charges in England that were discontinued in February 2023. His appearance attracted attention beyond the match itself, although he was unable to make a meaningful difference to the result.

For Villa, the performance offered encouragement after an inconsistent opening to the Premier League season. The team had struggled to secure victories at home, most recently drawing 2-2 with Brentford on October 10.

The Fenerbahce match showed a different side of Emery's squad. Villa combined aggressive attacking play with clinical finishing, while several recent arrivals made important contributions.

Jackson's two goals strengthened his position as one of the team's principal attacking threats. Manzambi also impressed through his midfield movement, opening goal and involvement in the penalty incident.

Barkley supplied experience and composure in the middle of the pitch. His two goals and assist underlined how important midfield contributions can be when Villa's forwards attract defensive attention.

Emery has built a reputation for success in European competition, having won the Europa League four times during his managerial career. Villa's latest performance continued the club's strong record in continental fixtures under his leadership.

The victory followed a 3-2 away win against Club Brugge in September. With two victories from two matches, Villa has six points in the Champions League league phase, where clubs compete for places in the knockout rounds.

The competition uses a single league table rather than the traditional four-team groups. Each club plays eight matches against different opponents, with the final standings determining qualification for the next stage.

Villa's next Champions League fixture is scheduled for October 21 against Norwegian club Viking at Villa Park. Another victory would strengthen its position in the league-phase standings before more demanding European fixtures later in the season.

The club will also return to Premier League action against Newcastle United, where improving domestic results remains an important priority. Maintaining the attacking quality displayed against Fenerbahce will be a challenge against opponents with different strengths.

Wednesday's result gave Emery a clear example of what his team can produce when its attacking players perform together. Jackson and Barkley supplied four goals between them, while Manzambi and Abraham completed a historic victory.

Villa's next European test against Viking will offer an early opportunity to build on the 6-0 result and extend its winning start to the Champions League campaign.
