Christina Applegate has broken her silence following reports of a recent hospitalization, reassuring fans that she remains resilient in her ongoing fight against multiple sclerosis.

"Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes," the actress wrote on Instagram Monday, alongside a photo of her memoir, *You With the Sad Eyes*, and a mug reading "Kissy Kissy." "Health issues are a constant for me, but I'm a strong chick and I'm getting stronger and better every day. I'm taking a moment to focus on my health, but I'll be back with more to say soon enough."

The update came after TMZ reported that Applegate was hospitalized in Los Angeles on April 16. According to Rolling Stone, the actress's representative declined to confirm whether she was seeking medical treatment but noted her "long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast."

Applegate has become one of the most outspoken voices in the MS community through her podcast, *MeSsy*, co-hosted with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and the support initiative NextInMS.com. In a recent interview, she described the platform in characteristically blunt terms. "I always tell people that I don't speak in flowers, and I think that's really important," she said. "Those of us who have MS are never going to be understood. We just want to be heard. Let us complain. Just let me be pissed off about it."

Health Notes:

The response from fans has been overwhelming, with many expressing gratitude for her continued candor about the realities of living with chronic illness.

Christina Applegate released her memoir, You With the Sad Eyes, on March 3, 2026, writing that multiple sclerosis forced her to slow down and that she hoped the book would make readers "feel less alone."

Applegate publicly disclosed her MS diagnosis in 2021. Since then she has described the illness in direct terms: pain, tremors, and major changes to daily life. By the time the memoir came out, The New York Times had reported that she had retired from acting. On a March episode of NPR's Wild Card with Rachel Martin, she said her death was "looming" and that she had purchased a burial plot.

The memoir is not a standard Hollywood retrospective. Reporting around the book describes it as an account of growing up inside the entertainment industry, family instability, trauma, self-doubt, motherhood, breast cancer, and MS. Applegate rose to fame as Kelly Bundy on Married... with Children, a role she held across the show's long run, and later built a television resume that included Jesse, Friends, Samantha Who?, Up All Night, and Dead to Me. She won an Emmy for her guest role on Friends and received additional Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for later work. Her film credits include Anchorman, Bad Moms, and Vacation, among others.

Around the time of the memoir's release, Applegate posted on social media that she was "getting stronger and better every day." The update came alongside an image of the book and followed reports of a recent hospitalization.

Even as her on-camera work has stopped, Applegate has remained active outside of traditional acting. In 2026, TG Therapeutics announced a collaboration with her on a national MS-awareness initiative. She also co-hosts the MeSsy podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS, and has built a patient community called Next in MS.

Applegate has said the illness pushed her away from on-camera work, though she has stayed open to voice projects. The memoir represents her most direct public statement yet about the years since her diagnosis and about a career that stretched more than four decades.
