Paramount Pictures will release Heart Eyes 2 on February 11, 2028, the studio confirmed, targeting Valentine's Day weekend for the second time with the romantic slasher franchise.
The first film, released by Sony last year on a reported budget of $18 million, grossed roughly $33 million globally. Its second weekend actually climbed 19 percent over the first, a rare upward trend that suggested strong word of mouth. For the sequel, Paramount steps in to handle worldwide distribution and co-finances alongside Spyglass Media Group, the same partnership that produced the recent Scream revival. Scream 7, the latest installment in that franchise, earned $213.4 million at the global box office.
Josh Ruben, who directed the original, returns to direct and co-write the sequel with Darcy Fowler. The story comes from Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy, who wrote the first film. Landon and Divide/Conquer will produce.
The original starred Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding as two coworkers hunted by the Heart Eyes Killer, a serial murderer who targets couples on Valentine's Day. As they fight to survive, they discover real feelings for each other. Whether Holt and Gooding will return for the sequel has not been confirmed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is too early to say.
Ruben moved quickly on the first film, pitching it on Valentine's Day weekend in 2024 and delivering it to theaters exactly one year later. "We really hustled, and it's truly a nine-month baby," he told THR. The 2028 target gives the production considerably more runway.
The only other major studio title currently dated for February 11, 2028 is an unnamed Universal event film.
