A gunman opened fire at a gathering of young people near Arcadia Lake outside Oklahoma City on Sunday night, sending at least 12 people to area hospitals, according to police and hospital officials.
Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward said officers received reports of shots fired at approximately 9 p.m. at a party near the lake. By late Sunday, no arrests had been made. Ward said investigators were "all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses."
"This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved and we are working extremely hard to find the suspects," Ward said.
Nine of the injured were taken to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Three others were treated at Integris Health Edmond Hospital. A hospital spokesperson said all patients were still being assessed late Sunday night. Ward said victims arrived in "various conditions," with some transported by police and others driving themselves to hospitals.
A flyer circulating on social media suggested the gathering was an event called "Sunday Funday" scheduled near the lake that evening. Police did not confirm those details.
