Los Angeles Lakers president Rob Pelinka stated publicly that the franchise would welcome LeBron James back for a 24th NBA season, according to ESPN, if the 40-year-old chooses not to retire.
Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick both expressed that they want Austin Reaves back with the team as well. Reaves has been one of the Lakers' most reliable contributors and a core piece of their rotation in recent seasons.
James has not announced a decision on his future. His return would make him one of the oldest active players in league history to continue competing at the highest level. The Lakers finished their 2025-26 season and are now in the early stages of evaluating their roster heading into the offseason.
Whether James opts to return or step away from the game, the Lakers' front office has made clear that the door remains open. His presence or absence will shape the direction of Los Angeles' roster construction decisions in the weeks ahead.
