Director Matt Reeves has confirmed a wave of new cast members joining Robert Pattinson in The Batman: Part 2, announcing the additions through a series of posts on X that include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Bryan Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch.
Reeves introduced each actor with a brief caption. For Johansson, he posted a photo of her in the 2013 film Under the Skin and wrote "Next exit, Gotham… Welcome." For Stan, who starred in Thunderbolts*, Reeves wrote "In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome." Johansson's involvement had first been announced in December, and Stan was first reported to be in talks in January, according to Variety.
Stan is set to play Harvey Dent. Dance, known for Game of Thrones, is believed to be playing Charles Dent, Harvey's father. Henry previously appeared in Joker and Eternals. Koch has credits in Homeland and A Good Day to Die Hard. Rounding out the new additions are Jayme Lawson returning as Mayor Bella Reál and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez.
Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne alongside Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
Filming is currently underway in the U.K. Reeves previously shared a teaser of the Batmobile with the caption "SnowTires," possibly hinting at a winter setting for part of the film.
Plot details remain tightly under wraps, but Reeves has indicated the sequel will shift focus toward the man behind the mask. He said the first film was heavily centered on Batman as a figure, and the follow-up aims to develop Bruce Wayne more fully. "In a lot of the other films, which I love, once you get past the origin tale, which we didn't quite do, but we did something that referred to his origins, then you start telling the Rogues Gallery story and that character's sort of arch," Reeves said. "But I never wanted to lose [Robert Pattinson] at the center of these stories, and so that is really what we set our aim on."
The Batman: Part 2 is scheduled to open in theaters on October 1, 2027.
