Netflix's Ransom Canyon, the neo-Western drama that became an immediate hit after the streamer's previous old-school Western failed to find an audience, will return for its second season on July 23.
The series, created by April Blair and set in the Texas Hill Country, stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly as Staten Kirkland and Quinn O'Grady, a couple whose slow-burn romance has been playing out across the show's run without resolution. Season 2 picks up with Quinn returning to Ransom Canyon after time away in New York chasing her dreams, having been out of contact with Staten during her absence.
Her return forces Staten to confront a question that has defined his character: whether the land he has built his life around still matters more to him than the people he loves. The show also features supporting storylines involving other couples, including high school love triangles.
According to Collider, Blair described the new season's emotional core in an interview. "Love is at the forefront this season, and it's really about people fighting for those relationships and fighting to figure out how to be with the person they want to be with," Blair said.
The series follows the genre template established by Yellowstone's massive success, combining mystery, action, and romance in a landscape-driven setting. From Prime Video's Outer Range to AMC's Dark Winds, multiple streaming services have attempted to build their own version of that kind of show. Ransom Canyon landed as Netflix's most successful entry in that effort.
Season 2 premieres July 23 on Netflix.
