Eufy announced a new AI-powered home security camera system at its Anker Day event this week that processes all data locally on the device, requiring no monthly subscription and sharing no footage with outside servers.
The product consists of two components: a new AI agent called EdgeAgent and a companion device called the Smart Security Shield. According to CNET, the Smart Security Shield is a sensor and camera with a 180-degree field of view. It is built primarily for outdoor use and equipped with digital security key technology to prevent unauthorized access. Its onboard AI chipset can identify faces of family members and friends from up to 100 feet away.
Because EdgeAgent runs entirely on the device, it does not exchange data with cloud servers. Eufy says this local processing makes the system 63 percent faster than competitors' cloud-based systems, reducing response delays to a few seconds.
The system can take several automated actions based on what it detects, including turning on a spotlight, issuing a voice warning, sending a phone alert, and generating a text description of what the camera sees. Those features exist on other major brands, including Blink, Ring, Google Nest, and Arlo, but those systems typically require a subscription ranging from $4 to $20 per month to access them. Eufy is keeping its no-subscription model, which sets it apart.
The local processing approach also carries privacy advantages. When footage and facial recognition data stay on the device rather than traveling to a company's servers, the data is less exposed to potential breaches, third-party access, or use in AI model training. Eufy does offer optional cloud storage for users who want it.
The Smart Security Shield and EdgeAgent are scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026.
