Shericka Jackson ran 21.87 seconds Saturday in Xiamen to win the women's 200m at the Diamond League meet and shatter the meeting record. The two-time 200m world champion led from the start and pulled away on the bend, finishing just 0.01 seconds short of the world lead.
According to BBC Sport, Shaunae Miller-Uibo crossed in 22.04 seconds for second place, and Anavia Battle took third in 22.29. Both recorded season's best times but neither came close to Jackson's pace at the front.
The 2023 world 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson also turned in a season's best, finishing fourth in 22.38 seconds. Great Britain's Amy Hunt, the 200m world silver medallist, finished seventh in the nine-woman field.
Jackson's performance was the headline result of the day in Xiamen, but another athlete drew attention in a separate event. Eighteen-year-old Chinese javelin thrower Yan Ziyi recorded the second furthest throw of all time in the women's javelin. She had already set the world junior record at age 17. On Saturday, she broke the Diamond League record, the Asian record, and the world under-20 record with a single throw.
