Barcelona are exploring a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon, with the English club expected to demand close to €80 million if formal talks begin.

According to Yahoo Sports, citing Spanish outlet AS, Gordon's name has climbed back up Barcelona's shortlist after a brief period out of consideration. Both manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are said to admire the 24-year-old and see him as a player who could immediately add qualities the squad currently lacks.

The interest reflects a shift in Barcelona's transfer thinking. Rather than pursuing only a traditional center-forward to replace Robert Lewandowski, the club is also looking at forwards who can rotate positions, attack space, and press with high intensity. Gordon fits that profile.

Gordon has been one of Newcastle's most important players this season. His influence grew significantly after the departure of Alexander Isak, both because of his performances on the pitch and because of the connection he developed with the club's supporters. That relationship with the fanbase is one reason any negotiation would be difficult.

Newcastle's position is strong on paper. Gordon signed a contract extension through 2030, giving the club full control over his future. However, Barcelona are aware that Newcastle may face financial pressures this summer that could force a significant sale. That possibility has drawn interest from several major European clubs, including Bayern Munich, who are also monitoring the situation.

Gordon himself is reported to be open to leaving if the right sporting opportunity presents itself.

Whether Barcelona actually move for Gordon may depend on a separate decision. The club is still weighing whether to permanently sign Marcus Rashford. If that deal goes through, a move for Gordon becomes unlikely this window.

No formal offer has been made, and Newcastle has not indicated any willingness to sell.
