Carson Benge made a decision before the game. The scraggly mustache had to go.

According to ESPN, the Mets rookie outfielder shaved ahead of New York's game against the Cincinnati Reds and then delivered two clutch singles to help his team to a win. Benge had figured the mustache might be holding him back. The results after removing it suggested he may have been right.

The details of the final score and game circumstances were not fully reported, but Benge's performance gave the Mets a productive contribution from a player still working to establish himself at the major league level.
