Lionsgate is joining Movies Anywhere, bringing hundreds of its most popular films to a platform that lets users access purchased movies across multiple digital retailers. The move is the first time a major new studio has been added to the service since 2017.
According to CNET, a selection of Lionsgate titles will become eligible on Movies Anywhere beginning in June, with 225 of the studio's highest-profile films available at launch. From there, around 100 additional films will be added each month throughout 2026 and into early 2027.
Movies Anywhere is a digital locker service that links a user's purchases across participating retailers so that a movie bought in one place can be watched in another. According to Deadline, the platform has 14.5 million users. With the Lionsgate addition, its library will grow to nearly 10,000 digital movies.
Participating retailers on the platform include Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Google Play and YouTube, Xfinity, Verizon Fios TV and DirecTV.
Titles from Lionsgate that are expected to be part of the rollout include John Wick, Knives Out, La La Land, Rambo and The Hunger Games. Some of those titles were already appearing with the Movies Anywhere badge at Fandango at Home ahead of the official launch, though none had turned up in the Movies Anywhere catalog yet as of the time of reporting.
Before Lionsgate's addition, Movies Anywhere already supported titles from The Walt Disney Studios, which includes Disney, Pixar, Twentieth Century Studios, Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm, as well as Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment. Major studios still not on the platform include Paramount, A24 and Criterion.
Movies Anywhere is owned by The Walt Disney Company. Disney originally developed a rights synchronization platform called KeyChest in 2009 before eventually building out what became Movies Anywhere.
The service covers only movies, not television series. Any TV show purchased digitally does not qualify for the platform and will not sync across retailers.
