Players who have been putting off Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Plus may be running out of time. A post on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit has predicted the RPG could leave the service in July, along with several other titles including Risk of Rain 2, Planet Zoo, and Banishers: Ghost of New Eden.
The post drew attention because of the game's profile. "The big one is obviously Cyberpunk," the post reads. "Witcher 3 only stayed for a year, so highly likely to follow same CDPR pattern, but I hope not because it's such a long game, and we all need more time."
The prediction has not been officially confirmed by Sony or CD Projekt Red. PlayStation Plus removal dates are typically announced closer to the end of a given month, so subscribers will likely know more within weeks.
Cyberpunk 2077 originally launched in December 2020 and had a troubled debut, but its reputation improved substantially in the years that followed, according to Screen Rant. The release of the Phantom Liberty DLC, the Cyberpunk Edgerunners animated series on Netflix, and a series of crossovers helped grow the game's audience well past its rocky start.
Screen Rant awarded the game an 8 out of 10. In the publication's review, critic Cody Gravelle wrote that "Cyberpunk 2077 is ultimately a game that is tailor-made for multiple playthroughs. The more skills V unlocks and the deeper they sink into the conspiracies of Night City, the more it becomes clear that this is a game which fans will happily sink their time into, well past the relatively short main campaign. CD Projekt Red assembled a collection of the finest open-world mechanics we've already seen, and most of them work well."
On OpenCritic, the game holds a top critic average of 76 out of 100, with 66 percent of reviewers recommending it.
The game is set in Night City, a sprawling metropolis where players take on the role of V, a mercenary navigating a world of corporate corruption and street crime. Johnny Silverhand, played by Keanu Reeves, is a central figure throughout the story.
For PlayStation Plus subscribers who have not yet played the game, the window to download it at no additional cost may be closing. If the July prediction holds, the game would return to its standard retail price shortly after.
