Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the final chapter of its multi-part remake of the classic RPG, will launch across all platforms in Spring 2027. The announcement came during the Summer Game Fest 2026 Friday night showcase.
According to Engadget, the trailer opened with a rapid summary of the original game, framing the story from a new angle. It also showed the iconic airship Highwind in action, with a new system that allows seamless movement between navigating the overworld from the air and traveling on foot, including a parachute mechanic for landing.
The trailer gave a brief look at characters Cid and Vincent joining party battles for the first time as full participants. Vincent's limit break transformation was shown, and players will still be able to switch between characters during combat. Vincent will also be able to shoot elements of the environment during gameplay, though it was not clear whether that ability is limited to specific chapters or available throughout.
A new equipment system called Fits was introduced in the trailer. It will unlock new movesets and battle boosts, and will also allow players to customize how characters look during the game.
A 2027 release would place Revelation's launch 30 years after the original Final Fantasy 7 debuted on the original PlayStation. Square Enix took one of the most influential RPGs in history, remade it, significantly reworked the story, and built an entirely new combat system across the trilogy.
The game will release simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox, and PC, meaning no platform will receive it ahead of the others.
