Taylor Swift and sisters Este and Alana Haim of the band Haim drew widespread attention at game four of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, June 10, showing up in custom New York Knicks pun T-shirts as the team pulled off one of the more improbable comebacks in recent playoff history.
According to Billboard, Alana Haim made the shirts herself. She bought royal blue T-shirts from Michael's for $2.99 each and screen-printed them after receiving a text from Swift asking if she could make one. Swift's shirt read "Stevie Knicks." Este's shirt read "Knickole Kidman," a reference to the actress Nicole Kidman. A third Haim sister, Danielle, was also reportedly at the game wearing a shirt that read "Knickolas Cage," though she did not sit with her siblings on celebrity row.
Alana Haim explained how the process came together. "We really just wanted to have fun, because we were so excited that we were going to the game, and I thought it would make people laugh, so we put them on shirts and all decided to wear them," she told Vogue after the game.
Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit also ended up wearing a "Stevie Knicks" shirt because Este always brings an extra one for friends.
Kidman was not at the game but made her feelings known on Instagram the following day. She posted a Story tagging Swift and both Haim sisters and wrote, "Right there with you girls!" over a video of the group's reactions. She also reposted a celebration video in which the trio danced to Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," writing, "My girls! I just wanna have fun!"
The Knicks came back from a 29-point deficit to win as time expired, taking a 3-1 lead in the series. Game five takes place in San Antonio on Saturday, June 13. A Knicks win would give the franchise its first championship in 53 years.
