Roma will not be signing Crysencio Summerville this transfer window. The Dutch winger's salary demands have put him out of reach for the Italian club, leaving Manchester United as the leading candidate to land the West Ham player.
According to Yahoo Sports, transfer expert Matteo Moretto, speaking on Fabrizio Romano's YouTube channel, confirmed that Summerville is practically out of the running for Roma. The club's new sporting director, Tony D'Amico, is working to bring in reinforcements for manager Gian Piero Gasperini, but the Giallorossi are operating within financial limits that Summerville's wage demands exceed.
Summerville, born in 2001, made his mark on the international stage recently when he scored in the Netherlands' World Cup opener against Japan. That kind of performance has only driven up his market value and the competition to sign him.
Manchester United appears most willing to meet those demands. The club is reportedly prepared to put a significant sum on the table to bring Summerville to Old Trafford.
Roma's top transfer target this window remains Mason Greenwood, with whom a salary agreement has reportedly already been reached. D'Amico and the club are focused on building around Gasperini's preferences, but the budget has clear limits. Summerville simply did not fit within them.
With Summerville off the table, Roma is now looking at other options to fill the winger position.
