With less than a week until the final season of The Bear drops on streaming, fans have been revisiting Jeremy Allen White's back catalog. The film drawing the most attention right now is After Everything, a 2018 feature written and directed by Hannah Marks and Joey Power in their debut.

According to Collider, After Everything has climbed into the ten most-streamed movies on Netflix in the U.S. The film earned an 84% average score on Rotten Tomatoes when it was released eight years ago, and critics noted its emotional honesty.

"After Everything is a remarkably honest, bittersweet, and fresh romance," wrote one reviewer at the time. Another added, "Featuring terrific performances by its young leads, the film marks an auspicious feature debut for its writers/directors."

Despite being sprinkled with comedy, the film centers on love under tragic circumstances. It drew strong notices for its young cast but did not reach wide audiences at the time of its initial release. Its return to prominence appears directly connected to the countdown to The Bear's final season.

All eight episodes of The Bear Season 5 will drop simultaneously on June 25 on FX and Hulu. The series has won 21 Primetime Emmys and five Golden Globes across its run. Creator Christopher Storer returns for the final season, steering a story in which Carmy, played by White, has quit the food industry and left the restaurant to the rest of the team.

Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Abby Elliott all return alongside White, with Lionel Boyce, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Matty Matheson continuing in the kitchen. Recurring cast members Oliver Platt, Will Poulter, and Jamie Lee Curtis are also back for the final run.

The surge in interest around After Everything fits a familiar pattern in streaming. When a prestige series approaches a finale, audiences tend to seek out other work from its lead performers. With White's run as Carmy coming to an end this month, the 2018 film appears to be filling that gap for viewers who are not yet ready to say goodbye.
