The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their series finale to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, losing 12-1 in a game that was effectively decided before the third inning was finished.
Starter Emmet Sheehan lasted just 3.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out four. It continued a rough stretch for the right-hander in the month of June. The Dodgers pulled him before the fourth inning was complete.
Baltimore wasted no time getting to Sheehan. The first four hitters in the Orioles lineup reached base safely in the first inning, and two runs scored before Los Angeles could get out of the frame. The Dodgers managed just one run in response, as Max Muncy hit a single to left field to bring home Shohei Ohtani from second base.
The Orioles kept adding to their lead. Taylor Ward hit a solo home run in the second inning, a ball that, according to Yahoo Sports, would have cleared the fence only at Dodger Stadium among all MLB parks. Colton Cowser then hit his eighth home run of the season in the third to make it 4-1. Cowser struck again in the fourth with a two-run single, pushing the margin to five.
Los Angeles held Baltimore scoreless for a few innings after that, but the seventh inning ended the game as a contest. Jeremiah Jackson drove in a run with a double. The Dodgers then intentionally walked Gunnar Henderson, and Pete Alonso made them pay, hitting a three-run homer to push the score to 10-1. Blaze Alexander added a two-run homer in the eighth to set the final at 12-1.
The Dodgers have still not reached 50 wins on the season. Their next series takes them on the road to face the Minnesota Twins.
