Logan Gilbert held the Boston Red Sox to three hits over 6.1 innings Sunday, and the Seattle Mariners beat Boston 3-1 at home to take the series finale.
Gilbert, now 6-4 on the season, struck out eight and walked two. He gave up a first-inning infield single to Ceddanne Rafaela and a fifth-inning single to Caleb Durbin, along with one run. The Associated Press reported the game's details.
Seattle scored first in the second inning. Dominic Canzone lined an opposite-field solo shot to left off Boston starter Payton Tolle for his 12th home run of the season. The Red Sox evened the score at 1-1 in the third when Nate Eaton hit his first homer of the year into the upper deck in left field.
The Mariners took back the lead in the fifth. Weston Wilson singled, stole second base, and scored on a Cole Young ground ball that got through the infield into center for a 2-1 Seattle advantage. Canzone then hit a fielder's choice groundout in the sixth that scored Julio Rodríguez, making it 3-1.
Tolle gave up three runs on six hits in six innings for Boston. He struck out two and walked two, falling to 3-5 on the season.
Gabe Speier, Eduard Bazardo, and Andrés Muñoz combined for 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to close it out. Muñoz pitched a clean ninth for his 13th save of the season.
Seattle's next game comes Tuesday on the road, when George Kirby takes the mound at Pittsburgh against Mitch Keller. Boston heads to Denver on Monday, where Jake Bennett will start against Ryan Feltner.
