Astronauts and cosmonauts from NASA's Expedition 73 gathered at Space Center Houston on June 16 to mark their return from the International Space Station and reflect on what NASA described as a record-setting mission. The Welcome Home Ceremony brought together members of three missions: NASA's SpaceX Crew-10, Soyuz MS-27, and NASA's SpaceX Crew-11.
During the expedition, all available docking ports on the station were occupied simultaneously for the first time. Eight spacecraft were attached to the station at the same time, a milestone that had not been achieved before in the station's history.
NASA Johnson Space Center Director Vanessa Wyche addressed the returning crews and the ground teams that supported them. "Together, these crews exemplified professionalism, resilience, and the spirit of international cooperation," Wyche said. "Their work ensured the continued success of the International Space Station Program and demonstrated the strength of our multi-vehicle crew transportation strategy."
The expedition included three spacewalks. Crew members installed hardware designed to support future solar array upgrades and other maintenance work critical to station operations. The mission also included support for visiting missions, among them Axiom Mission 4, as well as multiple cargo deliveries.
International Space Station Program Deputy Manager Dina Contella described the scope of the logistics involved. The expedition included six cargo missions and the first-ever flight of JAXA's HTV-X1 cargo spacecraft. More than 37,000 pounds of supplies, equipment, and scientific investigations were delivered to the station during the expedition.
Contella also spoke directly to the crew about what their collaboration had meant. "You learned each other's languages, and often, when we didn't know the right answers, you partnered with us, and you would come up with the answers and help," she said. "You really helped make us successful."
The ceremony recognized more than 1,000 employees representing 40 teams, all of whom received NASA Group Achievement Awards. Twenty-three individuals also received recognition during the event. The awards covered work across mission planning, operations, research, training, and crew safety.
