The Carolina Hurricanes will be without their leading goal scorer for the start of their Stanley Cup title defense. General manager Eric Tulsky announced that Seth Jarvis underwent shoulder surgery and is expected to be sidelined for four to six months, according to ESPN.
Jarvis plays on the wing alongside No. 1 center Sebastian Aho, making the pairing one of the team's most productive. His absence creates an immediate hole at the top of Carolina's lineup as the team prepares to defend the championship it won last spring.
A four-to-six month recovery window puts Jarvis's return somewhere around October or November at the earliest, depending on how the rehab progresses. The NHL regular season typically opens in mid-October, meaning Jarvis could miss the early weeks of the season or more.
The Hurricanes have not announced any roster moves in direct response to the injury.
