Elon Musk has received clearance from the Federal Trade Commission to acquire Mesh Optical, a data center optics business, according to a report by Data Center Dynamics.
The FTC approval removes a key regulatory hurdle for the deal. Mesh Optical operates in the data center networking space, providing optical technology used in large-scale computing infrastructure.
The acquisition adds to a growing list of technology holdings connected to Musk, whose interests already span electric vehicles, rocket manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and social media. Data center optics technology plays a central role in connecting servers and managing the enormous volumes of data that modern AI systems require.
The report from Data Center Dynamics did not detail the financial terms of the acquisition or a timeline for closing.
