Jannik Sinner's title defense at Wimbledon got off to a shaky start on day one, as the top seed dropped the first set to Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court. The scoreline stood at 4-6 in favor of Kecmanovic when the match was in progress, marking an early test for the defending champion.

Sinner was not the only notable story on the opening day. Emma Raducanu withdrew from the tournament with a stress fracture, adding her name to a growing list of players dealing with injuries in the lead-up to the grass court major.

British number one Cameron Norrie advanced past the first set against Michael Zheng, winning a tight tiebreak 9-7 to take the opening set 7-6. Fellow British player Harriet Dart was in action on Court One against Jelena Ostapenko, dropping the first set 3-6.

Three other British players did not survive the opening round. Mika Stojsavljevic, Felix Gill, and Max Basing all suffered first-round defeats on day one. American fourth seed Jessica Pegula won her opening match.

Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic were both scheduled to play later in the day, according to BBC Sport coverage reported by Yahoo Sports.

Raducanu's withdrawal drew particular attention, coming alongside a broader discussion about the number of players arriving at Wimbledon with pre-tournament injuries.
