Fans of Project Hail Mary will get a look at footage cut from the film when it arrives on 4K and Blu-ray on August 11. The physical releases will include five deleted scenes, according to Screen Rant, giving viewers a closer look at material that did not make it into the final cut of the movie.
The film, released in March 2026, faced a substantial challenge in adapting Andy Weir's 496-page 2021 novel. The source material relies heavily on the internal dialogue of protagonist Grace, a narrative approach that does not translate directly to screen. Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had to compress and cut significant portions of the story to bring it within a standard feature runtime.
The film's reception suggested those decisions largely worked. But the same popularity that confirmed the adaptation's success has sharpened curiosity about what was left behind.
Screen Rant reports that Lord and Miller revealed in an interview with CinemaBlend that a substantial amount of unused footage exists. Five scenes will appear on the DVD release, giving physical media buyers a concrete reason to pick up a copy beyond the film itself.
The August 11 release date covers both the 4K UHD and standard Blu-ray formats.
