The new Street Fighter movie has been officially rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association, extending a franchise tradition that dates back to the original 1994 film.
According to Screen Rant, the rating was issued for "violence/action, bloody images, strong language, sexual references, partial nudity and brief smoking." The film is directed by Kitao Sakurai and is scheduled for release in theaters on October 16, 2026.
The 1994 Street Fighter film and 2009's Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li were both rated PG-13 as well, the former for "non-stop martial arts and action violence" and the latter for "sequences of violence and martial arts action, and some sensuality." The new film is the third live-action feature-length adaptation of Capcom's fighting game series.
The rating stands in contrast to the rival Mortal Kombat franchise. Both the 2021 Mortal Kombat film and its 2024 sequel received R ratings for "strong bloody violence and gore, language throughout, and some crude references."
The new Street Fighter film follows Ken Masters, played by Noah Centineo, and Ryu, played by Andrew Koji. The two are recruited by Chun-Li, played by Callina Liang, to compete in a martial arts tournament. Beneath the competition lies a conspiracy that forces the two fighters to face each other and confront their pasts. David Dastmalchian plays the villain M. Bison. The script was co-written by Sakurai and T. J. Fixman.
The cast is unusually stacked with recognizable names from sports and entertainment. Roman Reigns plays Akuma. Cody Rhodes plays Guile. Jason Momoa, who also serves as a producer on the film, plays Blanka. Eric André, 50 Cent, and Orville Peck also appear, alongside Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim and Olivier Richters as Zangief.
The film arrives in theaters October 16.
