Former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill believes British drivers carry a unique burden when they race at Silverstone, but says the sport's current British stars have developed the ability to manage it.

According to ESPN, Hill said he believes there is enormous pressure on British drivers at the British Grand Prix, but added that the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris have learned how to give the fans what they want.

Hill won the Formula 1 world championship in 1996 and raced at Silverstone multiple times during his career, giving him firsthand knowledge of what it means to compete in front of a home crowd at one of the sport's most historic venues.

The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is one of the oldest races on the Formula 1 calendar and consistently draws some of the largest and most vocal crowds of the season. British fans have followed Hamilton closely since his debut, and Norris has become one of the sport's most popular drivers in recent seasons.

Hamilton, who won seven world championships during his career, moved to Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season. Norris races for McLaren and has established himself as one of the leading contenders in the current driver standings.

Hill's comments came ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone.
