Real Madrid have signed Netherlands international Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan on a four-year deal. The Spanish club reportedly activated the 30-year-old right back's release clause, set at 20 million euros, or roughly 17.1 million pounds. The transfer fee has not been officially confirmed.
According to BBC Sport, Dumfries becomes Real Madrid's fourth summer signing, joining Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, and Ibrahima Konate at the Bernabeu. The Dutch full-back is expected to compete for a starting spot with England international Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right side of defense.
Dumfries spent five years at Inter Milan after joining from PSV in 2021. During that time he made 207 appearances for the Nerazzurri, contributing 27 goals and 28 assists. His trophy haul in Italy included two Serie A titles and three Coppa Italia wins.
This past summer, Dumfries also helped the Netherlands advance to the last 32 at the World Cup before their run ended.
The move comes as Real Madrid works to rebuild after a difficult season. The club failed to win a trophy last year, and president Florentino Perez made defensive reinforcement a central promise during his successful re-election campaign. Perez also brought Jose Mourinho back to the club as manager for a second stint, adding to the sense that Real are undergoing a significant reshaping.
At 30, Dumfries arrives as an experienced option with Champions League and domestic pedigree. His ability to contribute at both ends of the field, shown by his assist and goal numbers at Inter, makes him more than a depth signing. He will push Alexander-Arnold for minutes in a position that was a visible weakness for Madrid last season.
Whether the four-year deal reflects a long-term starter role or a rotation piece may depend on how quickly Dumfries settles into a new league and a new manager's system under Mourinho. Real's business this summer signals that Perez is serious about the promises made to supporters during the re-election campaign.
