Samsung's next major product event is set for July 22 in London, and the company may be about to change the shape of its flagship foldable phone line. According to reports from both CNET and Engadget, Samsung is expected to reveal two distinct versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at the event, which would be the first time the company has launched two book-style foldables at the same time.
Samsung posted cryptic teasers on Instagram in the weeks before the event showing a rectangular shape, suggesting at least one device with a new form factor is coming. The company said in a statement that it "will introduce its latest Galaxy innovations that build on its leadership in foldables, combining intelligent capabilities and new form factors to deliver more personal, adaptive experiences and set a new standard for the AI era."
The base Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumored to feature a wider main display with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 4:3 aspect ratio. That would make the phone wider and narrower than the current Galaxy Z Fold 7, which uses a nearly square 1:1 aspect ratio internally. The wider format would theoretically reduce the black bars that appear when watching movies on the current model. However, to keep costs down, the standard Z Fold 8 may only include two rear cameras instead of the three found on the Z Fold 7.
The second model is expected to carry the Ultra name. Rumors suggest it would feature display technology that produces a less visible screen crease, an updated processor, three rear cameras, and possibly faster charging speeds. The Ultra designation would mark a new tier within the Fold line, separating a premium flagship from a more accessible base model.
A refreshed Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected at the event. Engadget reported the compact foldable is likely to feature a reworked hinge and improved performance, though a major redesign appears unlikely given a global RAM shortage that is making significant upgrades cost-prohibitive in 2026.
Samsung may also use the London event to reveal more details about its upcoming Android XR glasses. Google discussed those glasses at its I/O event earlier this year, noting that they were built in partnership with eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Samsung's specific role in the project was largely held back at that time, likely saved for the Unpacked event. There is also a possibility the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could appear, though Samsung may hold those for a later reveal this fall.
Samsung is opening up reservations ahead of the July 22 event, offering a $30 credit to anyone who pre-orders a device before it is officially announced.
